A Monterey man was arrested early last month following a traffic stop in which narcotics and a “ghost gun” were found in his vehicle, police said.

On the morning of February 11, an officer attempted to pull over 49-year-old Benjamin Gogarty, but Gogarty instead continued driving. About five blocks later, however, he finally did pull over on the 400 block of English Avenue.

Gogarty was soon placed under arrest after officers  discovered he’d been driving on a suspended license. They later searched him and his vehicle, reportedly discovering a bag of meth, smoking paraphernalia, and a disassembled Polymer 80 handgun with no serial number, otherwise known as a “ghost gun,” named as such due to them being nigh untraceable.

Gogarty has since been booked at the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of possession of an undetectable firearm, driving on a suspended license, possession of methamphetamine, and other charges.
