SANTA CRUZ — Two CHP officers have arrested 35-year-old Steve Anthony Gallegos after a traffic infraction on East Cliff Drive in Live Oak.

A 1994 Toyota Corolla without any license plate was spotted and pulled over. When the two officers approached, they noticed illegal drugs sitting in the vehicle.

Before an arrest could be made, Gallegos struck off on foot. He was, however, shortly apprehended regardless.

As it turned out, there were also weapons and ammunition in the vehicle.

Gallegos was arrested and booked at the Santa Cruz County Jail. He is charged with possession of a rifle or shotgun with a shortened barrel, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and four counts of felony HS, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle in a public place, and one count of obstructing justice.

His bail rests at $75,000.
