Misdirected Mail Package Uncovers $1.14 Million Narcotics Trafficking Ring
SAN DIEGO, CA — A misdirected parcel delivered to the wrong address last month triggered a joint investigation by the San Diego Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service, leading to the seizure of more than 91 pounds of illicit narcotics and four felony arrests.
The investigation began after a resident received a mysterious package delivered to their residence in error and alerted law enforcement. Detectives from SDPD and federal postal inspectors traced the origin and delivery network of the parcel, uncovering an organized operation utilizing the postal system to distribute controlled substances across hundreds of envelopes and boxes.
During the multi-agency operation, investigators seized a total of 41,125 grams of illegal narcotics and thousands of synthetic pills, including:
- 33,021 grams of methamphetamine, including over 100,000 counterfeit Adderall pills
- 5,116 grams of MDMA
- 2,450 grams of ketamine
- 538 grams of cocaine
- Approximately 1,000 Xanax pills
Law enforcement officials estimate the combined street value of the seized drugs at approximately $1.14 million.
Four individuals were taken into custody and face multiple felony charges related to narcotics trafficking through the mail. The investigation remains ongoing with federal and local partners.
