Stolen Motorcycle Suspect Arrested High Speed Pursuit and Foot Search near Big Pine
BIG PINE, CA — A multi-agency search involving a police service dog led to the arrest of a suspect following a high-speed vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot search south of Big Pine.
The incident began on Oct. 4, 2026, at approximately 9:41 p.m., when an Inyo County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle traveling along U.S. Highway 395. The rider failed to stop and fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph onto unpaved side roads. Deputies terminated the pursuit due to low visibility and unsafe road conditions.
Law enforcement personnel later located the motorcycle, which had crashed into a barbed-wire fence. A registration check revealed the vehicle had previously been reported stolen. Responding personnel determined the rider had fled the crash site on foot.
Units from the Bishop Police Department, Mono County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and Bureau of Land Management assisted Inyo County deputies in establishing a containment perimeter around the surrounding terrain. An Inyo County Sheriff’s Office K9 team deployed at the crash site and tracked the suspect’s scent trail approximately three-quarters of a mile through the field, leading officers directly to the individual.
The suspect, identified as Lane Turner, was taken into custody and booked into the Inyo County Jail on multiple charges, including felony evading, possession of stolen property, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license, along with several traffic infractions.
