Yuba City Police and Sutter County Sheriff’s Department Arrest Local Resident on Fentanyl Trafficking Charges

SUTTER, CA – A multi-week narcotics investigation involving the Yuba City Police Department and the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the arrest of a local resident for fentanyl distribution offenses.

On September 9, 2026, members of the Yuba City Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and Homeless Liaison Officer Eberley, supported by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant targeting 37-year-old Yuba City resident Versy Ashford. Law enforcement officers intercepted Ashford as he traveled northbound on State Route 99 near O’Banion Road.

 

The operational action concluded a multi-week investigation into local fentanyl trafficking. During the search, officers located and confiscated 27.81 grams of fentanyl.

Following the field contact, officers arrested Ashford and booked him into the Sutter County Jail. He faces charges of possessing a controlled substance for sale under Health and Safety Code section 11351 and transporting a controlled substance for sale under Health and Safety Code section 11352(b). Authorities noted that information gathered through routine community contacts by homeless liaison personnel contributed to the investigation
