Los Angeles Man Arrested Following Credit Card Theft from Vehicle in Irvine
IRVINE, CA — “Tonight’s story is called “The Hiker, the Thief, and the Very Expensive Apple. Once upon a time, someone set off on a peaceful hike to enjoy Irvine’s beautiful trails. While they were busy taking in nature, someone else decided to go on a shopping adventure of their own.
On June 3, a credit card was stolen from a vehicle while the victim was hiking. The card was later used to purchase more than $1,600 worth of items at the Apple Store.
It seems the suspect misunderstood the phrase “take a hike” and chose “take a wallet” instead.
Our Spectrum officers followed the trail of evidence, reviewed surveillance footage, and identified the suspect. Detectives later found Hernan Reyes Correa, 55, of Los Angeles, in Hollywood and arrested him for identity theft.
If you leave valuables in your vehicle, they may go on an adventure without you.
As Irvine’s hiking trails fill up for the summer, take your valuables with you, lock your vehicle, and make sure the only thing getting stolen is a few hours of your day by a scenic view.
Sweet dreams, Irvine.”
