IRVINE, CA-On Friday night, law enforcement officers conducted a patrol check in search of a suspect with an outstanding felony warrant. A K-9 officer located the individual entering an encampment in the area near Barranca and Valley Oak.

Responding officers established a perimeter around the location. A Drone as First Responder (DFR) operator assisted ground units by pinpointing the suspect’s position within the surrounding vegetation.

Prior to the search, earlier that evening, a high school student had filed a report regarding an e-bike stolen from a school campus. The reported description of the theft suspect matched the individual located at the encampment. Upon searching the site, officers recovered the stolen e-bike among the suspect’s personal property and subsequently returned the bicycle to the owner.

Law enforcement officers arrested 28-year-old Michael Hilgerman on the outstanding felony warrant and an additional charge of possession of stolen property. Hilgerman was booked into the Orange County Jail.
