On March 24, 2022, at approximately 11:17 p.m., deputies responded to the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort for a found bag that contained a loaded handgun.

As deputies arrived on scene, they were notified by security that the owner of the bag was inside a silver sedan that was leaving the casino property. A deputy located the sedan and attempted a traffic enforcement stop; however, the driver failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit down New York Ranch Road.

The pursuit continued on China Graveyard Road and then onto Jackson Gate Road. Another deputy was able to position himself ahead of the pursuit and successfully deploy spike strips, which deflated all four of the vehicle’s tires. The pursuit came to a safe ending at Highway 49 and Industry Boulevard, where the driver and passenger were taken into custody without further incident.

A search of the vehicle revealed suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, the handgun was determined to be stolen out of San Joaquin County.

The driver, 49 year old Lane Bryant, of Stockton, was booked for felony evading and drug related charges.

The passenger, 31 year old Oscar Barela, of Stockton, was booked for a warrant, as well as numerous firearm related charges.

We want to thank the casino security for refusing to give the bag back to the owner, identifying and tracking him while deputies responded, which ultimately lead to their capture.
