Jackson Resident Arraigned on Murder and Related Charges in Connection with Domestic Incident
JACKSON, CA – A Jackson man faces multiple felony charges, including premeditated murder, following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.
Jackson Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting an immediate threat of violence involving a firearm at the Kennedy Meadows apartments at approximately 12:20 a.m. Dispatchers heard sounds consistent with gunfire before the call disconnected. Assisting agencies, including the Amador County Sheriff’s Department and the Sutter Creek and Ione police departments, responded to the scene as additional shots were fired inside the unit.
Following a brief standoff during which the suspect claimed an explosive device was present, a relative persuaded him over the phone to exit the residence. Officers took 39-year-old Michael Patrick O’Riley II into custody without further incident.
Inside the bedroom, emergency personnel located Kylene Douglas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds alongside a deceased dog. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but Douglas died from her injuries.
The Amador County District Attorney’s Office subsequently charged O’Riley with willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder, animal cruelty, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, and violation of a domestic relations court order. Court records note O’Riley has two prior serious felony convictions and was released from state prison in early 2026.
During his arraignment, O’Riley entered pleas of not guilty and denied all enhancements. The court ordered him held without bail, with a pre-preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 2, 2026.
