Merced Police Arrest Suspect in Road Rage Incident

“Merced- Jeremiah Castillo (18) was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon following a road rage incident.

On 12/1/21 at about 1500 hours, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Hwy 59 and W Santa Fe Dr. While in route, another report of shots fired was made at the same location. A witness followed one of the involved vehicles which was stopped by police at 18th St. and V St. The driver, Jeremiah Castillo was detained pending the investigation.

Simultaneously officers responded to the scene at Hwy 59 and Santa Fe Dr. Officers located five bullet casings on Santa Fe west of Hwy 59. Moments later another call came in for a stabbing victim at Mercy Medical center. Officers and detectives responded to the hospital confirming the stabbing victim was the other involved party.

Upon interviewing all parties and witnesses it appeared as though this issue stemmed from a road rage incident. Castillo and the victim confronted one another at the intersection where Castillo stabbed the victim in the abdomen. The victim then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired rounds at Castillo. The knife and firearm involved were recovered following the investigation.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening wounds. Castillo was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail.”
