Merced Police: Man punched in the face (twice) by 73-year-old woman he tried to rob

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, during which he’d reportedly been punched twice in the face by his 73-year-old target, according to police.

Late last month, a man going by the name Daniel Paul McSwain tried to rob a 73-year-old woman as she walked to her car from the Rite-Aid where she’d just been shopping. Police say McSwain had been thrown out of the store minutes before.

When McSwain allegedly tried to physically wrest her purse and car keys away from her, the woman punched him in the face twice with a closed fist. Shortly thereafter, an officer arrived on scene.

McSwain was immediately taken into custody and later booked on suspicion of attempted robbery. Police also later discovered that his real name is David Ruggiero. Additional charges are expected based on this discovery.
