“Merced – A wanted gang member flees from officers carrying a loaded firearm from during a traffic stop.

On October 15, 2022 at approximately 12:20 PM Gang Officers with the Merced Police Department conducted a traffic stop near West Childs Ave and MLK Way. As the vehicle pulled over a passenger exited the vehicle holding a firearm. The passenger who was identified as Carlos Sandoval (30), a known gang member, fled from officers on foot. During the foot chase, Sandoval threw the firearm. Sandoval was caught hiding in an empty building nearby. Sandoval was wanted by probation.

Sandoval was arrested for his outstanding warrant, for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, gang enhancements, and resisting and obstructing a peace officer. He was booked into Merced County Jail.
