Gang suspects booked in shooting

MERCED COUNTY – Dos Palos – Two suspects have been arrested for their alleged participation in a gang-related shooting last month.

Gilberto Cortez, 18, and Fernando Sigala, 19, are accused in the Feb. 19 shooting on Sixth Street, in which no one was injured.

Sheriff’s investigators said Cortez and Sigala were passengers in the vehicle used in the attempted drive-by. Authorities believe a third suspect, Daniel Geronimo, was the driver. Geronimo is already in custody.

Cortez and Sigalawere booked earlier this week on assault with a firearm charges.

Authorities have not publicly identified the intended target of the shooting.
