Man arrested after stand-off with police in Folsom hospital lobby

A man was arrested following a stand-off with police in a Folsom hospital lobby last week.

Police responded to Mercy Folsom Hospital just after 2 AM on March 25, where 32-year-old Brian Steffes of Cool was reportedly armed with a gun and refusing to leave the lobby. Employees also said he was wearing a bandana over his face and a bulletproof vest.

Police say Steffes was seeking medical treatment but continued to be contentious and volatile with hospital staff, becoming increasingly erratic and destroying property.

SWAT and Crisis Negotiation personnel were eventually called to the scene and began efforts to reason with Steffes.

He was finally taken into custody around 3:20 AM and, after being medically cleared, booked at the Sacramento County Jail on felony charges including criminal threats, using a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, and being armed in the commission of a felony.
