SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — “On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office Communications Center was notified by the Citrus Heights Police Department of a carjacking that had occurred in their jurisdiction. The suspect, an adult male, had carjacked the victim at gunpoint. The suspect threatened to kill the victim as well as any law enforcement if the victim were to report the crime. Per the victim, the suspect fired at least one round during the carjacking as well.
At about 3 a.m., North Patrol Deputies located the vehicle driving near the intersection of Eastern Ave and Marconi Ave. Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop; however, the vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit. Several times during the pursuit, the suspect pointed his firearm at the pursuing deputies. A tire-deflation device was successfully used on the vehicle, and the suspect continued southbound on Interstate-5.
A short time later, the suspect stopped the vehicle in the lanes of southbound Interstate-5 just north of Arena Blvd. The suspect exited the vehicle and pointed his firearm at deputies, initiating an officer-involved shooting. In total, four deputies fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect was struck with gunfire. The suspect was detained, and deputies on scene immediately attempted life-saving measures. The Sacramento City Fire Department arrived on the scene and pronounced the suspect dead.
No deputies were injured during this incident. The suspect has not yet been identified. The suspect’s handgun was located at the scene.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing and will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction. An independent review of the incident will be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. In accordance with the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.”
