Man Hits Grandmother, Burns Her House

SACRAMENTO – 24-year-old Donald Eugene Evans was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly assaulting his grandmother and then, after she fled her home, setting it on fire.  Evans was engaged in a dispute with his 69-year-old grandmother with whom he lives and he thereupon attacked her.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. at the home in the 4000 block of Birchgrove way in Rosemont.  The unnamed grandmother left her home, with Evans still in it, and went to a neighbor’s house.  The fire was started minutes later.  24 firefighters responded and contained the blaze.  While the house where Evans started the fire suffered fire damage, the adjoining duplex sustained significant smoke damage, displacing both the grandmother and her next-door neighbors.

Evans was arrested at the scene and charged with suspicion of arson, terrorist threats, elder abuse and violation of probation.
