Man charged with felony animal cruelty after disturbing video surfaces

PATTERSON // An 18-year-old man has been arrested for felony animal cruelty after the discovery of a disturbing video posted to a private community Facebook page.

On the evening of Thursday, February 1, Patterson Police Services deputies were notified by several people through private private message about the video, which showed  a young man throwing a cat into a large body of water while he and several others joked and laughed.

Deputies conducted an investigation overnight, eventually confirming the identity of the suspect as 18-year-old Garratt Haile of Patterson.

The next morning, Haile was contacted and interviewed at his residence, then arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for felony animal cruelty. The incident is believed to have actually occurred several months ago, and deputies are continuing their investigation in the hopes of identifying the other subjects in the video.
