Modoc County Sheriff Issues Recent Booking Log and Jail Roster Update

MODOC, CA — The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office released updated jail population numbers and recent arrest bookings for mid-September 2026.

As of Monday morning, September 21, 2026, the Modoc County Jail reported 27 inmates in custody, comprising 2 females and 25 males. The total housing capacity of the facility is 43 beds.

The booking log for September 16 through September 19 includes the following individuals:

September 16, 2026

Alexander Lopez-Omar Castaneda, 26, of Newell: Arrested by California State Parole for a parole violation. Booked and held without bail.
James Duane Grisel Jr., 38, of Alturas: Arrested by the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office for burglary and grand theft of a firearm. Booked and held on $10,000 bail.
Michael Edward Mullins, 31, of San Joaquin County: Arrested by the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office for burglary, grand theft of a firearm, and an outstanding felony failure-to-appear warrant. Booked and held on $20,000 bail.

September 17, 2026

Karen Lynn King, 62, of Alturas: Processed via Court/DA booking and released on charges including taking deer without a license, unlawful possession of wildlife, probation violations related to feeding big game, and harassment of animals.
Curtis Texus Scofield, 66, of Alturas: Processed via Court/DA booking and released on charges including taking deer without a license, unlawful possession of wildlife, probation violations related to feeding big game, and harassment of animals.
Anthony John Phoenix, 50, of Fort Bidwell: Arrested by Modoc County Probation on a misdemeanor failure-to-appear warrant. Booked and held without bail.
Joshua Levi Hayden Helgeson, 41, of Alturas: Arrested by the Alturas Police Department for making criminal threats. Booked and held on $20,000 bail.

September 19, 2026
