Child sexual abuse investigation leads to arrest of Alturas man

ALTURAS // 57-year-old John Gregory Hughes of Alturas has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child molestation.
On October 9th, Hughes’ arrest came as the culmination of an ongoing investigation by the Modoc County Sheriff’s Department. He is charged with “multiple counts of continual sexual abuse of a child, child molestation and sodomy.”
Authorites served a search warrant at Hughes’ residence the day he was arrested and gathered additional evidence.
He is now housed at the Modoc County Jail on $200,000 bond.
