Construction Worker on Probation Arrested in Larkspur on Firearms Charges

LARKSPUR — A construction worker on probation armed with an improperly loaded shotgun
was arrested in Larkspur on September 21.
Juan Lopez-Lopez, 30, of San Rafael, was apprehended at a pedestrian walkway, near Marin Health Medical Center, apartment buildings
and condominiums.
A resident reported seeing a suspicious man carrying a firearm, and Central Marin Police
Authority responded shortly before 4:30 a.m. “Officers arrived on the scene within three
minutes,” CMPA police said in a prepared statement.
Responding officers first cordoned off the walkway connecting South Eliseo Drive and
Landerman Lane. Lopez-Lopez was contacted and ordered several times to drop the
shotgun. After he complied, Lopez-Lopez was taken into custody without further incident.
“Officers determined the shotgun was loaded with incorrect ammunition, and safely rendered
the firearm inoperable.” Police also found documents and other property not belonging to
Lopez-Lopez in his possession. He was transported and booked into Marin County Jail at
7:55 a.m.
Lopez-Lopez was booked for felon/addict in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded
firearm, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. Additional open charges
include grand theft of lost property, probation violation, and a bench warrant for disorderly
conduct loiter/prowls.
He remains in custody for the bench warrant and a probation detainer. Otherwise, bond to
release Lopez-Lopez from custody is $35,000 presently, pending further legal proceedings.
