Unfounded Threat Triggers Lockdown and Multi-Agency Response at Lassen High School

SUSANVILLE, CA  — Lassen High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2026, following a false phone threat that prompted a multi-agency law enforcement response.

Lassen County Dispatch received a call at approximately 11:00 a.m. from an unidentified male claiming to be near the Lassen High School campus armed with an AR-style rifle and explosives.

School administration immediately initiated lockdown procedures as a precautionary measure while officers from the Susanville Police Department arrived to secure the perimeter. Responding personnel conducted a comprehensive search of the entire campus premises and confirmed no weapons, explosives, or active threats were present.

Subsequent investigative efforts revealed that the phone call originated from a telephone number outside the local area, pointing to a swatting incident.

The Susanville Police Department is continuing its investigation to identify the caller, with assistance from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and CAL FIRE.
