Carmichael Resident Arrested Following Attempted Fuel Theft and Vandalism at Meridian School
SUTTER, CA – Sutter County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 47-year-old Carmichael resident on multiple charges following an investigation into a suspicious vehicle near an elementary school campus.
Deputies initially responded to Meridian School after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the property. Upon investigation, authorities determined the vehicle was connected to a suspect who had entered campus grounds.
School surveillance footage showed the suspect, identified as Allan Bergstrom, scaling the school’s perimeter fence and damaging a school-owned van in an effort to extract fuel. The video recorded Bergstrom fleeing the scene on foot prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
At the scene, responding officers recovered two gas cans, a siphon hose, and a screwdriver, which investigators determined were utilized in the attempted theft.
Following an initial search and several hours of continued surveillance in the surrounding area, deputies located and detained Bergstrom near 4th Street and D Street in Meridian. A search conducted during his detention revealed a concealed knife worn on a chain necklace beneath his shirt.
Bergstrom was taken into custody and booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges of felony vandalism, attempted petty theft, possession of burglary tools, and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.
