Landscaping Business Owner Arrested: Suspected of Armed Robbery in Incident Outside Richmond Bank of America

RICHMOND, CA —  Video and DNA evidence resulted in the arrest of armed robbery suspect Alfonso M. Del Rio, 32, of Richmond, on September 1. Del Rio who is a landscaper allegedly robbed the victim outside a bank on May 20, before fleeing on a bicycle.

The robbery occurred at a Bank of America branch on Hilltop Mall Road. It was recorded on surveillance video. DNA evidence identifying Del Rio as the suspect was obtained from an abandoned bicycle recovered near the bank.

A prepared statement from the Richmond Police Department said. “The suspect pointed a fireman at a woman and demanded her purse, fired a round into the air, and forced her to the ground. The victim suffered minor injuries.”

Richmond police SWAT officers and detectives took Del Rio into custody on a Ramey Warrant. He was apprehended at 600 Phanor Drive, where he operates Del Rio’s Landscaping from his residence.

Del Rio was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility, and booked on suspicion of robbery, with a firearm enhancement. He remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bond, pending review of the case for charges.

“This case is a great example of the dedication, attention to detail, and persistence of our detectives,” according to Richmond police. “They followed the evidence, utilized DNA technology, identified the suspect, and ultimately put a violent armed robbery suspect behind bars.”
