An 18-Year-Old Crashes a Car and Pulls a Gun on a Good Samaritan

BRENTWOOD — An 18-year-old driver who crashed a car and pulled a gun on a good Samaritan was arrested on multiple charges. When he was searched, he was found in possession of illicit drugs.

Officers were dispatched to Sycamore Avenue on September 29 to investigate a solo vehicle crash at 9:30 p.m. The officers were advised that the driver had pulled a gun on a good Samaritan who stopped to offer help.

Responding officers located a damaged car straddling the sidewalk at Heron Park. The driver apparently had crashed into a pole. The driver Jovanni Arevalo and his passenger were instructed to carefully exit from the car.

As Arevalo was climbing out, officers immediately spotted a gun tucked inside his pants pocket. After a few tense moments, the officers de-escalated the situation and disarmed the young man.

The woman who was sitting in the passenger seat exited from the car next, without further incident. She was briefly detained and later released.

While searching Arevalo for possible additional weapons, officers located suspected cocaine and the tranquilizer Xanax.
Arevalo who appeared to be intoxicated was arrested and transported to county jail. He was booked on five charges –
 Carrying a loaded firearm
 Exhibiting a firearm
 Possession of a controlled substance while armed

 Possession of a controlled substance
 Driving under the influence

Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.
