Suspect Charged for Attempted Robbery and Shooting Outside TJ Maxx Store in Alameda
ALAMEDA, CA — An 18-year-old resident of Vallejo, Khalid D. Nelson faces charges involving an attempted armed-robbery and shooting in Alameda. Nelson was arrested on August 15, and he remains in custody in lieu of $200,000 bond.
The incident happened at a parking lot at South Shore Center. Alameda police took Nelson into custody that day at 1:54 p.m. He was transported and booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail the following day, August 16 at 12:47 a.m.
While wearing a mask, Nelson allegedly brandished a loaded firearm and attempted to rob a victim outside a TJ Maxx store. Evidently, the victim was intending to sell jewelry to the suspect, but their encounter turned into an attempted robbery.
When a bystander intervened to stop the robbery, a struggle ensued, and Nelson allegedly fired a single gunshot. The second victim was injured but fortunately survived.
In a prepared statement the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said. “A good Samaritan, who came to the victim’s aid, was shot in the leg and sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The Good Samaritan received prompt medical treatment, and will recover.”
Nelson is charged with attempted robbery and assault with an unregistered firearm, causing great bodily injury to a vulnerable victim. Additional charges filed against Nelson include carrying a concealed loaded firearm, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.
His lengthy list of charges also includes using a firearm to cause violence or bodily harm to a vulnerable victim. Plus, he is charged with wearing a mask to evade identification in the commission of a crime.
