CHP Modesto Officers Arrest Impaired Driver Traveling 40 MPH on Interstate 5
MODESTO, CA — Officers with the California Highway Patrol Modesto Area office conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequent driving under the influence arrest on Interstate 5 during the morning hours.
Patrol officers observed a passenger vehicle traveling northbound in the left-hand passing lane of Interstate 5 at approximately 40 mph. The posted speed limit along that stretch of the freeway is 70 mph. Officers initiated an enforcement stop due to the severe speed differential and potential hazard to surrounding traffic.
Upon making contact with the male driver, officers noted signs of physical impairment. During the interaction, the driver stated to law enforcement personnel that he was currently traveling to Nevada.
Officers performed a series of standardized field sobriety tests on the driver at the scene. Based on the results of the evaluation, the driver was taken into custody without incident on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The individual was subsequently transported and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
