KEYES // Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a 15-year-old juvenile after an altercation between him and another led to the shooting of a third person who tried to break up the fight.

On January 2nd, just after 2 PM, deputies arrived in the area of 7th Street and Jenny Avenue after receiving word of the shooting. At the scene, they learned that two male subjects had gotten into an altercation, which a third party — identified only as a 39-year-old man — tried to intervene and diffuse. While breaking up the fight, the man was shot in the stomach by one of the subjects.

He was transported to the ER before deputies arrived and is expected to survive.

The shooter was soon identified as a local 15-year-old juvenile, who was found hiding in an orchard on the 5700 block of Washington Road.

He was taken into custody and booked into juvenile hall for assault with a deadly weapon. He is also suspected of elder abuse after a December 2017 investigation, during which he was accused of “striking an elderly family member.”
