Fresno County Authorities Release Identity of Suspect in Deputy-Involved Shooting
FRESNO, CA — Fresno County authorities have identified the suspect critically wounded in a deputy-involved shooting earlier this week.
According to a press release by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a home on Olive and Cornelia avenues on the evening of Tuesday, July 14, to investigate a report of a man breaking down a residence’s door while the occupants were inside.
The homeowners had reportedly described the suspect, who had fled by the time the deputy arrived, as a taller Black man who was driving a white work truck with a ladder rack.
Around twenty minutes later, another call came, this time from a home on Garfield Avenue, reporting that a man matching this description was on their property, threatening to kill them, and refusing to leave.
Because of the matching descriptions, the deputy investigating the initial incident responded to this second one.
The deputy contacted the suspect next to his van and a physical struggle ensued, resulting in the deputy firing his weapon and critically injuring the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
Assisting deputies arrived to provide medical aid before EMS transported the suspect to the hospital, where he is reportedly in critical condition. The deputy was treated for minor injuries as well.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as 24-year-old Juwan Priddie of Santa Maria.
Authorities have reportedly booked Priddie electronically, to face charges of attempted burglary, resisting arrest with violence, obstructing an officer, making death threats, assault, battery on a police officer, and battery causing serious injury.
Priddie’s bail was set at $100,000, according to the sheriff’s office.
