Mendocino County Burglary Suspect Reportedly Caught Red-Handed by Property Owner

YORKVILLE, CA — “On 04/21/2026 at approximately 10:52 A.M., Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 26000 block of Highway 128 in Yorkville, for a report of a burglary that just occurred.

Sheriff’s Deputies were informed that the 55-year-old male victim confronted a male when he arrived home and noticed the suspect was in possession of property belonging to the victim. The victim was able to retrieve his personal belongings from the suspect, who left the scene after being confronted by the victim.

The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect, which was relayed to Sheriff’s Deputies. While responding to the incident, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a subject on Highway 128 who matched the description provided of the suspect. Sheriff’s Deputies contacted the subject, identified as Luther Lane, a short distance from the scene where the crime occurred.

While investigating this incident, Sheriff’s Deputies learned the items the victim retrieved from Lane were originally located inside an occupied dwelling.

Lane provided a statement that corroborated information previously provided by the victim. The victim in this investigation was able to positively identify Lane as the person who committed the burglary.

Lane was placed under arrest for 459/460 PC – First Degree Burglary. Lane was transported to the Mendocino County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
