Ukiah: One killed, another injured in double-shooting; suspect in custody

A Ukiah man has been arrested in connection to a double-shooting that left one dead and another critically injured.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call just after 8 AM on Wednesday, September 23, about an alleged shooting on the 2500 block of Twining Road.

Sheriff’s deputies, as well as CHP and Ukiah PD officers, responded to the scene and were immediately met by the suspect, 65-year-old Thomas Dean Jones, who turned himself over without incident.

As they began to investigate, deputies learned there had been two victims — a 28-year-old man who was currently in critical condition, and 44-year-old Jamie Eugene Wilcox, who had already succumbed to his injuries. The younger victim was ultimately airlifted to an out-of-county hospital.

Deputies also learned that the shooting had been related to a family dispute over the development of the property. Sheriff’s Detectives later responded to the scene and have since taken up the investigation.

Jones is now in custody at the Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, being armed during the commission of a felony, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He is reportedly ineligible for bail.
