Parolee with Two Felony Warrants Arrested for Alleged Attempted Murder in Covelo

COVELO, CA — “On 10/10/2026 at approximately 10:50 A.M, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a report of a male subject at the Covelo Fire Protection District with multiple suspected stab wounds.

A Sheriff’s Deputy who was in the Covelo area, responded and spoke with the victim and a witness. The Sheriff’s Deputy was told the incident occurred at the Pine Grove Cemetery in the 22700 block of Covelo Refuse Road in Covelo.

The Sheriff’s Deputy learned the person responsible for the stabbing was Jefferey Allan Joaquin. The Sheriff’s Deputy was familiar with Joaquin and knew him to be on California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Parole and have two felony warrants issued for his arrest through the Superior Court of Mendocino County.

One of the felony warrants for Joaquin’s arrest had a $1,000,000 bail where he was suspected of stabbing another victim nine days prior. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office was actively searching for Joaquin regarding the stabbing investigation from 10/01/2026. Joaquin’s second felony arrest warrant was issued for violating the terms of CDCR Parole.

Refer to the previously published press release from the Sheriff’s Office for further details regarding the incident on 10/01/2026 involving Joaquin: Press Release 2026-18585.

While speaking with the victim and a witness, the Sheriff’s Deputy began receiving information regarding Joaquin’s whereabouts and learned he was possibly in possession of a large knife. The Sheriff’s Deputy notified other law enforcement personnel who were responding from the Willits area and proceeded to the area of Henderson Road where Joaquin was reportedly seen.

The Sheriff’s Deputy arrived in the area of Henderson Road and learned Joaquin was recently seen walking westbound along a dirt trail between Tabor Lane and Concow Boulevard. Round Valley Tribal Police officers also responded to the area of Joaquin’s last reported location.

The Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the area of the 100 block of Concow Boulevard, located Joaquin, and ordered him to surrender. Joaquin placed his hand inside of his jacket and turned away from the Sheriff’s Deputy. Joaquin began walking away from the Sheriff’s Deputy while being repeatedly told to stop and surrender. The Sheriff’s Deputy ordered Joaquin to stop or he would use his Conducted Energy Device (CED), commonly known as a Taser.

The Sheriff’s Deputy then activated his Taser at which time Joaquin ran away and was pursued on foot by the Sheriff’s Deputy. After a short foot pursuit, the Sheriff’s Deputy ultimately located Joaquin sitting in a ditch. Joaquin had his hands hidden and continued to ignore the lawful orders to remove his hands from his jacket pockets and surrender.

Joaquin then got up and started to run away from the Sheriff’s Deputy. At this time, the Sheriff’s Deputy deployed the Taser which incapacitated Joaquin. The Sheriff’s Deputy and Tribal Police were able to take Joaquin into custody without further incident.

Joaquin was taken to a local area hospital where he was examined by medical personnel and ultimately cleared for incarceration at the Mendocino County Jail.

Joaquin was transported to the Mendocino County Jail, where he is being held on the listed charges on a no-bail status.

The victim from this investigation was flown to an out-of-county hospital and has since been discharged after receiving emergency medical treatment for his injuries.
