Two Men Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges Following Yuba City Shooting Investigation

YUBA CITY, CA  — Deputies and detectives with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation following a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2300 block of Railroad Avenue in Yuba City. The reporting party indicated that gunfire struck the home over the weekend, though no injuries were reported among the occupants.

Initial findings suggested the incident may have been linked to a family dispute occurring earlier that day. During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance footage which captured a blue BMW driving slowly past the home prior to the shooting. Further footage provided by the reporting party showed two individuals firing toward the residence from a nearby orchard before fleeing the scene.

Investigative leads allowed detectives to identify two suspects and a vehicle associated with the incident. The vehicle was later located in Live Oak, where deputies conducted a felony traffic stop on Pennington Road. Both suspects were detained without incident. As part of the investigation, a K-9 handler from the Yuba City Police Department assisted in a search for firearms and ammunition.

Jonathan Melo, 25, and Jeremiah Melo, 24, were arrested and booked into the Sutter County Jail. Both individuals face charges of attempted murder, willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, and child abuse with possible great bodily injury or death.
