Suspect Arrested Following Hit-and-Run Incident in Monterey

MONTEREY, CA — November 14th 2025 — Officers with the Monterey Police Department recently arrested a 24-year-old Salinas resident following an investigation into a hit-and-run collision. The incident was reported on November 13, 2025, at approximately 10:10 a.m. near the intersection of Pacific Street and Scott Street.

Upon arrival, officers identified the involved vehicle as a white, four-door sedan based on witness accounts. Utilizing Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology and other investigative measures, officers subsequently located the vehicle, identified as a white Honda Accord, unoccupied in the downtown Monterey area.

The driver, identified as Jaishi Govinda, 24, of Salinas, California, was located by Monterey detectives and officers later that afternoon, at approximately 2:40 p.m., at a business located in the 300 block of Alvarado Street. Govinda was taken into custody without incident.

The police investigation determined that Govinda was driving west on Scott Street and struck a pedestrian while turning south onto Pacific Street. The pedestrian was utilizing the crosswalk on Pacific Street at the time of the collision. Following the impact, the driver left the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital, having sustained injuries that were determined to be serious but non-life threatening.

Govinda was booked into the Monterey County Jail. He faces a violation of California Vehicle Code §20001, which pertains to Hit and Run Causing Injury. Bail was set at $10,000. The Monterey Police Department concluded its statement by reminding the public about the importance of driving responsibly and remaining at the scene of any collision.
