Bomb Squad Detonates Marine Rescue Device on Monterey State Beach

MONTEREY, CA  — “State Parks was made aware of a phosphorus marine rescue device on Monterey State Beach approximately 300 yards north of 125 Surf Way. State Parks contacted the Monterey County Bomb Squad who referred them to the Santa Clara County Bomb Squad.

The Navy Police assisted in closing the beach until the Santa Clara County Bomb Squad arrived. At approximately 9:38 pm the bomb squad, utilizing standard procedure, detonated the device. It is believed the item washed ashore from a marine vessel.”
