Yuba City Man Arrested After Shooting Incident on Tamarack Drive

YUBA CITY, CA  –– “On August 10, 2025, Yuba City Police officers responded to a residence on Tamarack Drive after reports that a man had fired a gun at a victim and shot a dog inside the home. Officers identified the suspect as 47-year-old Surjit Cheema, who was reportedly under the influence of drugs.

The victim and one family member were able to escape the residence, while another family member remained inside. The Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team responded and safely evacuated the remaining family member.

Mr. Cheema, armed with a firearm, climbed onto the roof with the handgun. After negotiations and the use of less lethal pepper balls, Mr. Cheema surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Mr. Cheema was booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, and felon in possession of a handgun. The case has been forwarded to the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office.”
