SAN RAFAEL, CA — A resident at Casa Canal apartments was arrested for allegedly stabbing
another resident and later threatening another person.
Antoinae T. Austin, 30, remains in custody at Marin County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. Austin has history of making violent
threats and multiple prior arrests on her record.
An argument escalated to violence at the facility for formerly homeless persons, according to
San Rafael police, “Austin got into an argument with the victim and pulled a knife and stabbed
the victim in the stomach.”
Police responded on August 12 at approximately 5:30 p.m. The attacker fled from the building
at 3301 Kerner Boulevard, before officers arrived.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
San Rafael police searched for Austin in the Terra Linda neighborhood, where a shelter-in-
place advisory was issued. While officers were searching for Austin, San Rafael police
received another emergency call at 6:50 p.m.
A suspect matching Austin’s description threatened another person with a knife. This incident
happened near the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and North San Pedro Road. Fortunately,
the victim in this second incident was not physically injured.
The search was expanded with assistance from a Marin County Sheriff’s Office aerial drone
and a California Highway Patrol helicopter. Shelter-in-place notifications were issued for San
Pablo Avenue area neighborhoods.
At 7:50 p.m., police received a report that Austin returned to Casa Canal, where she
barricaded herself inside a bathroom.
A brief standoff ensued. Officers forced entry into the bathroom, and took her into custody at 8:51 p.m., without further incident.
Austin was booked on open charges for –
