Two Arrested, One at Large After Armed Robbery in Moss Landing

MOSS LANDING, CA – Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men on Wednesday July 23d, following an armed robbery that concluded with a foot pursuit along the Pajaro River levee. A third suspect remains at large.

The incident began around 11:40 a.m. on July 23, 2025, when deputies received a report of a robbery at knifepoint near Dolan Road and Via Tanques Road in Moss Landing. A person performing utility work in the area told authorities that he and a coworker were confronted by three individuals who were burglarizing their work vehicle. One of the suspects brandished a knife, and the group took tools before fleeing the area in a vehicle. Neither of the victims sustained injuries.

Just after noon, deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the one used by the suspects. The vehicle was found on Gonda Street, near the Pajaro River levee in the community of Pajaro. Upon seeing deputies, the three occupants fled on foot. Deputies were able to apprehend two suspects following a pursuit. The third suspect, described as a Hispanic male adult wearing a black top and blue pants, was last seen running west along the south side of the levee and successfully eluded law enforcement.

The two individuals arrested were identified as David Ortiz Calderon, 34, and Larry Genaro Martinez Escandon, 36, both from Watsonville. They were booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of armed robbery and delaying/obstructing a peace officer.
