South San Francisco Man Arrested, Accused of Burglarizing Same Construction Site Three Times
SAN MATEO, CA — “On May 21, 2025, SMPD began investigating a report of a burglary from a construction site on the 2100 block of Palm Ave. It was learned this site had been burglarized on two occasions, between 5/16-17 and 5/20-21. Power tools and the like had been taken by an unknown subject, valued at over $4000.
An area canvass for security cameras over that week, by a persistent Community Service Officer assigned to the case, led to the locate of vital video footage on 5/27/25. The video depicted a male subject jumping the fence of the victim location on 5/16 and return to a nearby shelter with the stolen equipment. Staff at the shelter were able to confirm the identity of the subject and were also able to confirm he indeed returned to the building with the tools. The subject was identified as Diego Sanchez Palomares.
On 6/17/25, at approximately 6:30pm, South San Francisco PD located Palomares in their city, where we responded and affected our arrest. Palomares was transported back to SMPD where he was interviewed and then transported to the San Mateo County Jail where he was booked.
This case highlights how important security camera systems are, whether for your home or for your business. They play an invaluable part in solving crime, and furthermore, they become valuable evidence during prosecution. If you don’t have a security camera system, please think of installing one. We suggest making sure you have enough cameras to capture both the ingress/egress of your property, as well as a street facing one. You can then register them with us at https://sanmateoconnect.org/. There, you can also learn how to share your live feed as we build out our Real Time Information Center (RTIC).
Another important thing to highlight is the need to document serial numbers, values, makes, models, and descriptions of your valuables. This information helps us to identify and return stolen property to its rightful owners. By providing this information as part of your police report, it not only provides a record for insurance purposes, but this information is entered in a nationwide system that allows law enforcement to run items to determine if they have been reported lost or stolen, making it easier to identify thieves and return property. Please take the time to document and mark your items with some type of identifier.
