Monterey PD makes Weapons Arrest

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 12:05 A.M., Monterey Police Officers promptly responded to a report of a battery incident inside a bar situated in the 300 block of Alvarado Street. The response followed a call regarding an altercation that had occurred at the location.

During the investigation that ensued, MPD Officers apprehended Evans Charles, a 23-year-old resident of Seaside. Further examination revealed that Charles was in possession of a loaded and concealed handgun at the time of his arrest. Notably, Charles was found to be out on bail for a prior arrest on May 21, 2023, which included charges related to possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a large capacity magazine, and resisting a peace officer. Additionally, Charles was subject to a served criminal protective order that expressly prohibited him from possessing firearms.

Subsequently, Charles was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple charges under the California Penal Code. These charges include carrying a loaded concealed firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, committing a felony while out on bail, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a firearm by a restrained party in a court order, violation of probation, and battery. His bail was set at $70,000.
