Moreno Valley, California – On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:45 AM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a call about a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival at Pigeon Pass Road and Ironwood Avenue, the deputies located the stolen vehicle with two subjects inside. The driver, later identified as Corey Summerville, an 18-year-old black male from Moreno Valley, refused to stop when directed by the deputies, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued onto Highway 60 and into the city of Jurupa Valley. While on Highway 60, deputies lost sight of Summerville and canceled the pursuit. However, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 60. Summerville then exited at Rubidoux Boulevard and was involved in a traffic collision.

Following the accident, Summerville was taken into custody, and an un-serialized handgun was found in the driver’s area of the vehicle, with a loaded magazine nearby. The passenger, a 17- year-old black male from Los Angeles, fled on foot and was later located hiding in the bushes on the side of the highway.

Summerville and the juvenile sustained injuries as a result of the accident and were taken to a local area hospital for medical attention. Further investigation revealed that the juvenile was reported missing from the Los Angeles area. The juvenile was later released to Los Angeles County Child Protective Services, and Summerville is set to be booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for several offenses.

According to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, Summerville will be charged with felony evading, felony child endangerment, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Henesey at the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station.

This is a developing story, and more details will be made available as the investigation progresses. Members of the media who require further information on this incident are urged to contact the Media Information Bureau.
