Mother arrested for infant son's murder

RANCHO CORDOVA (Dec. 4) — Deputies arrested 33-year-old Kristen Gibson, of 10450 Mills Tower Drive, Rancho Cordova, for the homicide and assault resulting in the death of a child.

According to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. R.L. Davis, the arrest stems from an incident that happened July 9 of this year. Early that morning, deputies responded to a reported infant’s death at 10450 Mills Tower Drive. The deputies discovered that the suspect had given birth to a full-term, 8-pound baby boy in the bathroom while she had been on the toilet. A female roommate had discovered both Gibson and the infant and reported that to emergency medical personnel, deputies had learned.

An extensive investigation conducted by detectives, forensic specialists and the coroner’s office determined that the suspect had intentionally allowed her son to drown after she severed the umbilical cord, Davis reported.

Gibson is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail and will be arraigned in court on December 8 at 1:30 pm.
