SAN RAFAEL — A man masquerading as a Comcast employee led Marin County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high-speed chase. The suspect was observed attempting to enter a resident’s home in the Bret Harte neighborhood, before fleeing from the area.

The man was smartly dressed in a Comcast uniform. He was seen by a resident who was alerted by a camera on their Ring doorbell. The resident was not home, and no Comcast appointment was scheduled.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on the Fourth of July. Deputies responded to the unincorporated area of San Rafael. The garage door of the home was propped open with a ladder when deputies arrived.

The man fled when the deputies showed up. He sped away in what turned out to be a stolen Xfinity van. He eventually drove over the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

With deputies in hot pursuit, he took an ill-fated shortcut at an off-ramp in Richmond. The van then careened into thick roadside brush and became entangled. The suspect abandoned the van and fled on foot.

With assistance from California Highway Patrol officers and a CHP helicopter, deputies located and arrested Tyler C. Ramirez. The 30-year-old San Francisco resident was taken into custody at 1:19 p.m., near 555 West Cutting Boulevard in Richmond.

Ramirez remains at Marin County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bond. He was booked on open charges for –
Taking a vehicle without owner’s consent
Receiving/possessing a stolen vehicle
Burglary
Evading an officer with disregard for public safety
