Inyo County Sheriff: Man arrested on suspicion of igniting Rattlesnake Fire

“INYO COUNTY, CA, May 12, 2022 – Shortly after 2:00pm on May 11, Inyo County Sheriff’s Dispatch received information of a brush fire above Independence, north-east of Lower Grays Meadow Campground. 

Fire personnel responded and the Sheriff’s Office initiated an evacuation order for Lower and Upper Grays Meadow Campgrounds and Seven Pines area.

At approximately 6:17pm a suspect was located in the area and admitted to the CalFIRE Arson Investigator and an Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputy that he intentionally started the brush fire.

The suspect is identified as 25-year-old Bishop man, Leon Eddy. Eddy was booked into the Inyo County Jail under the following charge: felony arson. Bail has been set at $100,000.”
