Approaching car interrupts man in sexual assault

“On Saturday, November 13, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Monterey Police Department officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Casanova in reference to a sexual battery that had just occurred. A female was walking her dog in the area when she was grabbed from behind and pulled to the ground.

As a vehicle approached on the street, the suspect battered the female and fled the area on foot. The female described the suspect and Monterey Officers canvassed the area. Laureano Matias was located a short distance away. Laureano Matias matched the description of the suspect and was identified as the person who had attacked the female.

Luis Laureano Matias, 23, of Castroville, CA was arrested on the following charges: California Penal Code (PC) 220 – Assault with Intent to Commit Rape, 236 PC – False Imprisonment, and 242 PC – Battery.

Laureano Matias was transported and booked in the Monterey County Jail. His bail was set at $110,000.”
