Redding police recently arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting at a local encampment.

Police responded on the morning of October 19th to an encampment in Mercy Canyon to investigate reports of a shooting. At the scene, officers found a man dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives from multiple surrounding agencies soon responded to the scene and began piecing together the chain of events. After reviewing surveillance video and speaking to nearby residents, investigators identified 19-year-old Alejandro Nunez Armstrong as the primary suspect.

Police say Armstrong confessed to the murder during an interview with detectives, but “provided no clear motive.”

Armstrong was later booked at the Shasta County jail on suspicion of murder. The identity of the victim has not been publicly disclosed.
