by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office:
“Last night at the Moss Landing Harbor, our deputies were investigating a vehicle with fraudulent registration. Christopher Moreno was standing with the vehicle with a bottle of alcohol when deputies approached him.
Christopher decided it would be a good idea to run away from the deputies. After a short foot pursuit, Christopher jumped in the water and tried to swim across the harbor. By this time one of our deputies with a drone showed up to capture the action and to give play-by-play updates of the impromptu Moss Landing Triathlon.
Deputies took up positions on both sides of the harbor and tried to convince Christopher to give up, but he kept swimming. He eventually decided he could hide under a dock but gave up after a while due to the cold water. Christopher was placed under arrest and warmed up by awaiting paramedics.
Oh back to the car he ran from… Deputies found a loaded firearm and lots of methamphetamine inside a fake soda can. Both the driver, Yolanda Torrez, and Christopher were arrested and taken to the Monterey County Jail for felony charges.”
