“On December 30, 2020, at 6:47 p.m., a Placer County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a follow-up call in Foresthill, regarding a theft from the victim’s trailer.

The victim had previously called PCSO several weeks prior to report another theft, but did not want to file a report. The victim installed several cameras on and in her trailer, and was able to see who was responsible for the thefts. The suspect was identified as 59-year old Derek Jones of Foresthill.

According to the victim, there was an agreement with Jones to watch her trailer when she was not home. The victim reported jewelry, food and personal female items had been stolen from her trailer. Additionally, her roommates reported having a total of $900 cash stolen from their wallets.

Deputies began investigating the incident and saw the theft suspect in the surveillance footage was Jones.

Deputies contacted Jones at his trailer, where they conducted a search and found six rounds of ammunition used for a .357 Magnum. Jones is a convicted felon, and is not allowed to be in possession of ammunition. Jones was arrested and charged with burglary and being a felon in possession of ammunition. ”
