On June 2, 2020, Fresno PD’s Career Criminal Auto Theft Team was alerted to a possible out-of-town ANTIFA  group staying at a local hotel. While at the hotel, detectives observed multiple subjects arrive in various vehicles, including a U-Haul box truck, acting suspiciously. When the subjects left the area, detectives followed.

The suspects lead the detectives to a WSS shoe store on West Clinton. They went inside and a few minutes later reappeared running from the store carrying boxes. They jumped in their vehicles and headed south on the 99.

With Air1 assistance, detectives were able to follow the suspects and stop them in Selma.

The arrestees were identified at 25-year old Nathaniel Rios and 32-year old Ryan Shaw of Bakersfield.

Rios is currently on probation and wanted in Kern County for a misdemeanor warrant. Shaw is also wanted in Kern County for a felony theft warrant.

The WSS merchandise was recovered. In the cab of the U-Haul, detectives located hammers and pry bars, items commonly used during burglaries or looting. Continued investigation determined the U-Haul was stolen from Bakersfield.

Rios was booked at the Fresno County Jail for burglary, looting, a probation violation, and the misdemeanor warrant. Shaw was also booked at the Fresno County Jail for burglary, vehicle theft, looting, and the felony warrant. Rios has been released from custody while Shaw is now in custody at the Kern County Jail.
