Sheriff: Woman admits to dousing man in lamp fluid and setting him on fire

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly setting a man on fire.

Deputies responded to the Hayfork area on the afternoon of March 25th and located the victim, who had sustained significant burn injuries to his upper body. Medical personnel immediately took him to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

53-year-old Tami Novak was identified as the primary suspect in the attack and detained at a nearby residence.

Deputies say she admitted during an interview to pouring lamp fluid on the man’s head and then setting him on fire.

Novak was arrested and booked at the Trinity County Jail on suspicion of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and assault with a caustic chemical.
