Humboldt Sheriff: Six arrested in annual sex offender compliance sweep

HUMBOLDT COUNTY — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of six people following their annual sex offender registration compliance sweep, which was conducted between August 6th and August 9th this year.

The sweep aims to ensure that all known sex offenders are in compliance with stipulations set forth in California Penal Code 620, such as registering in person with law enforcement in the jurisdiction in which they reside, updating their registration annually, and notifying law enforcement when any changes have been made to their address or registration information.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, there are 472 registered sex offenders living in Humboldt County as of August 15th, 2019.

During the sweep, 23 registrants were suspected of being out of compliance, four were currently incarcerated, and one had recently passed away. Of all the registrants contacted, six were arrested for non-compliance. Officials say they expect more warrants to follow.
